Special Features

Distinctive features that set it apart from other elementary schools

A distinctive program supporting holistic education.
We are an IB World School offering a global education.

As an international school, a non-article 1 school, and an IB World School, CGK is committed to pursuing the ideals of education.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop individuals who contribute to a better world with a global perspective. At CGK, we share this vision by focusing on holistic education that goes beyond rote memorization. We emphasize conceptual understanding and the development of essential life skills, broadening students’ opportunities for happiness in an increasingly global world.

World-Class Inquiry-Based Learning Curriculum

As an IB World School, CGK not only adopts the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum but also incorporates elements of Japan's course of study by MEXT. Being a non-article 1 school, CGK has the flexibility to select the highest educational standards and practices from around the world. This is one of CGK's significant advantages.

As students progress from the elementary program to middle and high school, we are committed to securing accreditation for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). This accreditation ensures that we continue to provide high-quality education that equips students with the global skills they need in real life and on the world stage.

Welcoming Diverse Parents

At CGK, we believe that having a diverse student body and parent community from various cultural backgrounds contributes to the development of our CGK community and enhances educational outcomes. However, this does not mean we exclude Japanese families.

While many international schools require parents to have English communication skills, or even do not accept Japanese students at all, CGK welcomes parents who can communicate with the school in either English, the language of instruction, or Japanese, the language of our school's location. This is not a barrier to admission.

We are committed to improving the CGK community environment, including supporting parents, so that as many children as possible can benefit from a CGK education.

Comprehensive Learning Support

While English proficiency is required for admission to the elementary school, as English is the language of instruction in all classes except Japanese, we offer EAL (English as an Additional Language) support for those who need it. EAL instructors provide push-in or pull out support in small groups, helping students improve their practical English skills.

Additionally, if students require support in areas beyond English proficiency, we offer a range of tailored learning assistance to meet their needs.

Study Abroad Programs

We offer overseas study programs to encourage children to become self-reliant, self-directed and lifelong learners. Our staff will help you make the arrangements after finding out the needs of your child and your family. There are many different options to study abroad, for example, parent-child study abroad, home-stay, and boarding schools. These are very valuable opportunities to put learning to practical use in a new environment, apart from the daily life at CGK, and parents will be touched to see how much their children grow.

CGK strongly recommends studying abroad at a young age, as it provides an opportunity to experience an unknown world and gain exposure to diverse values and ways of thinking, which in turn, leads to growth.

At CGK, we offer programs that allow children as young as two years old to study abroad. For elementary school students, the range of options expands significantly, including many programs that support studying abroad independently.

CGK is a welcoming place for international students from abroad with a view to encouraging multicultural cooperation.

It is rare for a school to actively offer a wide variety of study abroad programs starting from the early childhood and accept short-term international students. This is a key feature that sets CGK apart.

Program for Developing Independence

While the IB emphasizes agency, CGK places particular emphasis on independence and initiative, as we offer a one-year study abroad program in the second year of middle school.

For students and parents to feel relaxed about studying abroad at a young age, it's vital to prepare well ahead of time. CGK offers various programs to prepare students to live abroad independently, to be self-directed, and to make their study abroad experience both fun and rewarding.

CGK not only offers programs in cooperation with national and international organizations, but also has a wide range of independent daily activities and special activities during school vacations to help students grow.
