VS PARK is an interactive activity facility where you can enjoy experiences like being on a game show.
On the first day of Summer School, students will take on 26 exciting activities and enjoy a wide variety of fun experiences to the fullest!
We’ll start the day at CGK before heading by CGK bus to World Porters, where VS PARK awaits. After an unforgettable experience, we’ll make our way back to CGK on foot.
Please bring a packed lunch as students will be eating in World Porters or at the local park.

Form and test hypotheses by taking part in multiple fun filled experiments!

Students will channel their curiosity as they work together with friends to investigate ideas, test possibilities, solve challenges, and discover how different approaches can lead to exciting results. Through collaboration, observation, problem-solving, and experimentation, students will experience the scientific method in a fun and meaningful way, where every question can lead to a new discovery!
Experiments Include: Balloon Rocket Lab, Bridge Builders Station, Mystery Liquids Lab, Paper Airplane Engineering, Color and Light Lab and Inventor Station.

Let your imagination run free and create your own ideal dream house!

Students will explore different styles of homes by looking at examples from Japan, England, and rural France, including houses with large gardens and even a private lake. Inspired by these ideas, they will design and create their own “dream house” either through detailed drawings with labels or by building a model individually or in groups.

Discover how art connects people and cultures in our creative Mosaic and Culture day.

Through hands-on mosaic making and cultural exploration, students will investigate patterns, symbols, and stories from around the world while creating their own meaningful artwork.

What can you make with spaghetti and marshmallows?!

Students will use their ingenuity and curiosity to create structures using everyday objects that serve a practical purpose or communicate an idea. We will discuss the form and function of some famous buildings, bridges and statues from Europe after which students will discuss, decide and design original forms of their own! Following this, the students will be given the materials to get started and must work as a team and communicate effectively to create their own building!

Work together to escape from a Desert Island!

Summer is here and with that our summer school friends are jetting off to paradise! Or so they think… In ‘Desert Island Escape’ our intrepid summer schoolers will be tasked with (you guessed it) escaping a desert island! With only their wits and an enormous amount of cardboard, they must work together to create fantastical inventions that will help them escape, survive or perhaps even thrive on a remote island. This class will focus on teamwork, design and imagination. Without the help of 'technology' our friends will test their innovation and survival skills in a fun and inclusive environment, we look forward to welcoming you!

CGK’s partnership with Minatomirai Industrial Museum continues with this two day course giving students exclusive access to the Museum.

This two-day seasonal lesson, developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, is designed to deepen students’ understanding of what happens after rockets deliver objects into space. During the visit to the Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum.

On the first day, students will explore the roles of satellites, space probes, and cargo spacecraft, and investigate how these objects maintain their orientation and stability in the weightless environment of space. Through hands-on gyroscopic experiments, they will observe how spinning objects resist falling and maintain direction, building a foundation for understanding how engineers use the gyroscopic effect in real-world space technology.

In addition, the museum also features Sky, Space, Sea, and Land Zones, where students can explore a variety of exciting and inspiring exhibits.
We will conduct fun, interactive quizzes to review everything we learned at the museum to help the students retain that knowledge for our second day of this project.

On the second day, following the museum experience, the second day will focus on consolidating and applying this knowledge through a teacher-led lesson and hands-on engineering project. Students will review key concepts through demonstrations and then design and build a self-stabilizing spinning CD device, incorporating a simple circuit with a motor to bring their design to life. As they build, students will experiment with different weights and materials to explore how mass and balance affect stability. The lesson will culminate in a final design challenge, where students test their creations to see which model can remain upright the longest, encouraging problem-solving, iteration, and a deeper understanding of how scientific principles are applied in engineering.

Students will explore creativity through a fun paper weaving craft.

Using colorful strips of recycled paper, they will learn simple weaving techniques to create their own unique designs.
Add color to your favorite drawings by weaving paper strips through them, and create your own unique patterns!
This hands-on activity helps develop fine motor skills, patience, and an appreciation for patterns and textures.

Let your inner inventor run wild and solve a problem with your own original creation!

Taking inspiration from the hit TV show Dragons Den (Shark Tank) students will create an invention and then pitch it to the class during presentation time. The more information and detail they can provide the more likely that their invention will receive a pass from the judge!

Over the course of two days explore the physics behind flight and apply your knowledge to create your own airplane!

On the first day, students will share their ideas and discuss how things fly. We will explore examples from the natural world to see where humans have taken inspiration from, and also look at the evolution of airplane design over time.
Through experiments with paper airplanes students can see how small adjustments can have a big impact on how well they fly. Having gained an understanding behind the mechanics of flights students will then start to think about their own airplane designs and plan them out.

On the second day, students will continue working on their airplanes, add finishing touches, and any additional extras such as lights. We will then use the 5th floor or the local park to test how their final designs fly! Students will be able to take their airplanes home with them at the end of the day.

Enjoy a fun filled day at Asobimare.

At Asobimare, students will learn the joy of moving their bodies through a variety of fun activities.
They can enjoy sledding and playing in the artificial snow at Snow Town, experiencing a winter-like environment even in summer.
Let’s have fun playing in the cool indoor space and cold snow, and enjoy the hot summer together with friends!

*We will be taking the train. Please make sure your SUICA/PASMO is charged and meet at Yokohama Station North Gate. Please be aware that if you are running late we can not wait and will take the train as scheduled.
We will come back to CGK Kannai Campus together.

Move it like an Engineer by building machines that use the power of air and water to lift objects!

On the first day, students will explore and learn about the history of machinery from the stone tools used by prehistoric humans right through to the hi-tech machines of today. Whilst learning about machines, we will consider how they have impacted our lives, whilst observing the simple machines that surround us and look forward towards the potential future developments of machinery too!

On the second day, using a variety of small scale engineering building materials, build you own pneumatic and hydraulic machines then test their lift capacity using different objects.
Students will work through the creative process of design, build, test and improve to create the most effective machines possible!

Create and play your own original sport!

Either through working by yourself, in pairs, or in teams, students will plan out and design their own original sport game. Through trial and error students will refine their game until they are ready to present it to their peers. Students will have the opportunity to play each others games and give their thoughts in what will surely be an all action end to the day!

Have you ever wondered how solar energy works?

In this lesson, students will build their own solar-powered circuits and use the power of the sun to run electronic devices such as lights and motors. As they learn how photovoltaic panels work and how electricity is generated and used, they will bring their own ideas to life by creating solar-powered projects, such as a dollhouse with working lights or a speedboat that moves using solar energy.

After completing their projects, students will visit Kawasaki Eco Gurashi Mirai-kan to learn how solar energy is used in the real world. This field trip will help students connect their classroom learning with everyday life and deepen their understanding of renewable energy.

Learn about how animals have adapted to their environment through the process of evolution over time to become masters hunters!

During this day we will look at various examples of animals that have become perfectly adapted to their environment. We will be focusing on animals that hunt other animals and looking at the attributes that make them efficient hunters. Students will create their own original animal adapted to an environment of their choosing to present to their peers.

Become CGK sports day champions!

Students will start the day at CGK where we will discuss the flow of the day, the rules of the facility, and decide mixed teams for the day. We will then take the CGK bus to Yokohama Country & Athletic Club (YC&AC) where teams will compete in a variety of tournament games. Using the indoor gymnasium students will participate in games of soccer, sprint, relay, handball, capture the flag, ultimate frisbee, kickball, dodgeball and more!

*This Sports Day is an event in which only children may participate. Please note that parents/guardians are not permitted to attend.

Taking inspiration from various festivals and cultures from around the world, create and bring to life your very own summer festival!

On the first day, after looking at and discussing festivals from around the world, students will plan out their own original festival in teams that they will build towards creating and hosting!

On the second day, students will make games, activities, decorations, accessories, choose music, and possibly prepare basic food depending on what they want their festival to look like. After working for two days, the students will get to enjoy the fruits of their labor by taking part in and running their own original summer festival!

To make the festival into a real event, we'll even invite other teachers from other school departments to come and get involved with all the festivities!

Learn how to create your own ice cream using everyday supplies!

Students will learn about how materials interact to cool, flavor, and change the properties of milk to create our ice cream dessert! Students can add various toppings to make their ice cream perfect for them.

A relaxing and fun day exploring Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise Aquarium.

During the hot summer months, students can spend the day exploring the cool shaded aquarium, watching animal shows such as penguin and dolphin performances, all while discussing the experience and sharing their opinions about what they see. Will you find your favorite sea creature? If you don’t know its English name, try asking your teacher!

Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group at Sea Paradise.
Upon returning to CGK, students will have the opportunity to share with the class things they learned or anything that surprised them.

Design and build your own original game!

This is a classic course that students get absorbed in every time! What can you make out of cardboard and classroom supplies?

In the past, students have created original games such as whack-a-mole, marble runs, and puzzles. If you have new ideas for games, share them with your friends and try creating them together!

Through planning, discussion and team work let your imaginations run wild and create games we can all enjoy!

Enjoy a fun filled active day with friends and work on their fine motor skills!

One of CGK’s most popular field trip day, with many returning participants each time.
Students will get the chance to run wild and have a super fun filled day trying out all the facilities at Tondemi Space Athletics Center.
