[Video] Afterschool Job Training: Learning About Doctors
Here is a glimpse of a lesson at CGK Afterschool!
The Project Work subject was Job Training, and the children learned about doctors.
In the first lesson, we discussed the tools doctors use.
The worksheet included unrelated items, such as firefighters’ and police officers’ hats, so the children worked hard to check each item carefully.

Although everyone knew the word “doctor,” discussing what doctors actually do and how they use their tools encouraged more contributions and made the lesson very lively.
The small-group setting also seemed to help the children feel less shy about speaking English. Having known them since Preschool, it was wonderful to see them enjoying conversations in English and participating more actively than before.
We finished that day’s Project Work by reviewing what we had learned.
The children talked even more than usual, making this a particularly lively lesson.
Questions such as “Why?” and “How?” seemed to switch on a flow of English. We hope the children continue to enjoy learning this way.
