A Magical Culinary Adventure: CGK’s Preschool Lunch at Primo
CGK International School recently enjoyed a truly special experience as our preschool students and their families gathered for a delightful five-course meal at Primo. The event was filled with laughter, learning, connecting, and, of course, incredible food. From the moment families arrived, there was a sense of excitement (and hungry bellies!) in the air. For many of our young learners, this was more than just a meal out… it was an opportunity to step into the world of culinary creativity and discover the magic behind these new dishes.
One of the highlights was the opportunity for students to peek into the kitchen and watch the chefs hard at work. With curious eyes and eager questions, the children observed how different dishes were thoughtfully prepared. They watched fresh pasta noodles being made, fish dishes carefully cut and crafted, and desserts beautifully assembled. Seeing the process firsthand brought their classroom learning to life and gave them a new appreciation for the art and effort that goes into each plate.
The five-course meal was a feast for both the palate and the imagination. Each course offered something new to taste and explore, encouraging students to try different flavors and textures in a supportive and celebratory environment. Families shared smiles across the table as children bravely sampled new dishes and proudly talked about what they had learned from the chefs.
Beyond the delicious food, the experience fostered connection: between students and parents, families and faculty, and our school community with the local culinary world. Events like this remind us that learning happens everywhere, not just within classroom walls. By engaging their senses and asking thoughtful questions, our preschoolers practiced curiosity, communication, and confidence in a real-world setting.
This experience beautifully reflected the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme. Throughout the afternoon, students embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes. They were inquirers by asking thoughtful questions about ingredients and cooking techniques; risk-takers by bravely tasting unfamiliar foods; and communicators by sharing their observations and reflections with peers and family members. Meal at Primo became a living example of how authentic, hands-on experiences nurture meaningful learning.
The event also supported transdisciplinary learning, connecting classroom concepts to the real world. Students explored ideas related to where food comes from, how it is prepared, and how culture influences cuisine. They practiced social skills, demonstrated respect for others’ perspectives and preferences, and developed an appreciation for collaboration and creativity. By observing the chefs and engaging in dialogue, they strengthened their critical thinking and deepened their understanding of how communities work together.
Most importantly, the day encouraged our young learners to see themselves as active participants in their own learning journeys. Through reflection and shared discussion, they made connections between their experiences and their ongoing units of inquiry. Moments like these help cultivate internationally minded students who are open-minded, reflective, and eager to explore the world around them.
We are deeply grateful to Primo for graciously hosting CGK and opening your kitchen to our youngest learners. It was a magical day of discovery, community, and delicious memories that we will cherish for years to come. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all the families who joined us and made the afternoon so meaningful. Your presence and enthusiasm made the experience even more special for our students.
