The 4th CGK Sports Day: CGK Olympics
Thank you for waiting!
Our fourth CGK Sports Day was successfully held on December 8 last year.
With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics approaching, this Sports Day featured activities inspired by Olympic sports.

Of course, we could not simply recreate the Olympic events, so our teachers adapted them with their own ideas.
In the golf activity, the Jungle class children (ages 3–4) became golf balls, avoided obstacles such as ponds and bunkers, and finished with a forward roll for a hole-in-one. The Mountain class children (ages 4–5) jumped over their parents as hurdles. The Sky class (ages 5–6) adapted a familiar Sports Day game called “Typhoon’s Eye,” in which several children hold a pole and run around cones, into a canoeing activity.

We also introduced a gymnastics demonstration by the Sky class this year, although it was not part of our Olympic-themed games.
At CGK, a physical education specialist teaches PE approximately twice a month, with native English-speaking teachers leading PE in the other weeks. For Sports Day, the children demonstrated the jump-rope, mat (handstand forward roll), horizontal bar and vaulting-box skills they had practiced. Everyone took part in jump rope, choosing their own favorite or strongest way to jump for 30 seconds. For the other events, each child chose which skill they wanted to attempt and demonstrate.
Each child had just one attempt at each event. Their serious expressions showed how determined they were to demonstrate the results of their practice. This was a moment for every child to take center stage. The applause and confidence they gained when they succeeded made it a wonderful experience.
CGK provides English education, but English is not the only thing we value. Through Sports Day, children learn to cheer for their friends, experience the disappointment of losing and the desire to win, and gain confidence when their practice pays off. It also gives children who enjoy physical activity an opportunity to develop their strengths.
Offering a variety of experiences and learning opportunities, not just English education, helps us value each child’s individuality.
At the end of the school year, we hold an English performance called the English Show. It gives children who enjoy acting and expressing themselves a chance to shine. Working together as a class to complete a play also builds a sense of unity.
We are already looking forward to seeing how much the children have grown at the English Show.
