English Show 2019

Preschool March 27, 2019
On March 9, our much-anticipated English Show took place at Kannai Hall. Ocean class (age 2) performed “Animals Go to CGK!”, Jungle class (age 3) presented “The Glove,” and Mountain class (age 4) performed “Alice in Wonderland.” The combined songs were “Go Bananas” and “Celebration.” During the approximately one-hour show, every class and every child worked hard on the large stage in front of their families.

The children had spent three months learning their lines, songs and stage movements, practicing again and again. Most rehearsals took place with their classroom teachers, but whole-school rehearsals let us see other classes improving too. All of us on staff looked forward to the big day. It was moving to see children who had depended on teachers’ cues at the first school rehearsal performing independently and speaking loudly on stage. Watching them remember long English lines and do their best to speak despite their nerves brought back memories of all their effort in practice. Each class had different challenges and goals, but their daily progress showed us more than preparation for a performance: we could see the children growing into older, more confident members of the school.

For the final combined songs, the children sang and danced so energetically that their voices and footsteps filled the stage and hall. They had already learned to sing loudly in practice. Their next challenge was to smile and move naturally with the rhythm, enjoying themselves while expressing that enjoyment to the audience. Through repeated practice and encouragement to channel their efforts positively, even their voices changed on the day. They seemed to enjoy singing more than ever, and we hope their performance brought that joy to everyone watching.
