Our First Easter Egg Hunt

For multicultural learning, CGK chooses a country each month. Our first theme, in April, was the United States!
Easter was already familiar in Christian cultures, while in Japan it was becoming more widely known through places such as Disneyland at the time.
Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Egg hunts, in which children look for brightly decorated eggs, are one way families share the celebration.
On April 20, we took the school bus to Negishi Forest Park for an egg hunt.
Holding baskets they had made, the children began searching. Every discovery brought shining eyes and “I found it!” as if they had uncovered treasure.
They quickly found more than thirty eggs. We then counted together, asking how many they had found. Learning numbers through play brought the idea beyond a classroom exercise.
When counting was finished, the children asked, “One more time!”
While teachers hid the eggs again, they played on a gentle slope, using their legs as they moved up and down.
Alongside education, CGK values children’s physical and emotional development. Movement offers stimulation, and building healthy, strong bodies is an important part of our care.
Next month’s country will be Mexico!
