December 13–14: Making Iced Cookies
On December 13, the children in our two-year-old class made iced cookies with Jenny.
First, everyone reviewed the names of the ingredients and cooking utensils.
They learned words such as “measuring cup,” “whisk,” “bowl,” “spoon,” “butter” and “flour.”

Next, they took turns mixing butter, sugar and flour. While the dough rested in the refrigerator, they mixed sugar, milk and food coloring to make icing. In the afternoon, they cut out the cookies.

The cookie-making continued the following day!
Each child chose red or green icing and spread it on a cookie with a spoon. Then they added their favorite colors of M&M’s chocolates to finish the decorations. The icing needed time to set, so we waited until afternoon snack time to eat them.
Of course, the children eagerly ate their cookies, happily saying, “Yummy!”
