Irish Halloween Event 2017

We held CGK’s second Halloween event on Sunday, October 29.
The previous year, when our school was smaller, CGK children and outside guests had celebrated together. This year, we arranged three sessions.
In preparation, children learned the names of Halloween characters such as witches, Frankenstein’s monster, vampires and mummies.

Jungle class (age 3) made Frankenstein wall decorations, while Ocean class (age 2) created ghosts using bottles of colored water.
Making their own decorations increased the excitement for the event.
As the day approached, children began chatting with friends about their costumes and showed how much they were looking forward to it.
Our theme was Ireland and the Irish roots of Halloween. We introduced stories and quizzes about Ireland, jack-o’-lanterns and leprechauns said to hide gold at the end of a rainbow.
During game time, families enjoyed the traditional Halloween game bobbing for apples, face painting, trick-or-treating and making Halloween bags.
We also played a cakewalk, a game similar in some ways to musical chairs, using the characters children had learned beforehand.
A visiting Irish dancer introduced Irish music and dance. After watching, the children had a chance to try Irish dancing themselves.
Through these experiences, everyone learned more about both Halloween and Ireland!
