Super Smashing Sports Day
And just like that, another CGK Sports Day came and gone and a lot of fun was had along the way. This year’s Sports Day was a little different from previous editions as it reflected the implementation of the IB curriculum at CGK. The children were given more agency in planning Sports Day such as choreography and planning and modifying their games. As we mature as an IB school, events such as Sports Day will demonstrate the agency that the children have. This makes our Sports Day more exciting and unique than other sports days that you have been to.
Sports Day mixed new children-led events based around their skills and interests with events that are a big part of CGK tradition. Ocean (2-year-old) class took part in the Colorful Mayhem game where the Ocean children had to use their prior knowledge of colors in a new learning, and competitive environment. In the Treacherous Treasure Hunt, both Jungle (3-year-old) classes had to the skills that they have picked up in P.E. to jump, crawl, and climb their way through the obstacle course. Mountain (4-year-old) class got to show how much they enjoy jumping in the Astronaut Jump game where their great jumping technique took them on a bouncy quest to collect hidden beanbags. Finally, Sky (5-year-old) class pitted themselves against each other in Sharks and Minnows. As great communicators, they were able to discuss and select who would be the three sharks that were tasked at tagging their minnow friends. As well, by abiding with their essential agreements, they were able to follow the rules and manage the game themselves. Along with these highlights, Mountain and Sky took part in their respective relay races which were very competitive but run with great sportsmanship. Also, making a welcome return was the family tug of war match which was a fun but fiercely fought event.
We would like to thank all the teachers and children for their hard work leading up to Sports Day. As well, a big thank you to all the families who attended Sports Day. Everyone’s participation meant that we had another smashing Sports Day and makes next year’s edition even more anticipated.
