Staff Training: CPR and Emergency Response

With the end of the 2017 school year, CGK entered its third year.
In the 2018 school year, there were 58 children across three classes—a considerable increase from the three children who joined when we opened two years earlier.
New staff also joined us in March and April.
As a preschool registered as a non-licensed childcare facility, CGK worked to protect children through monthly drills for fire, earthquakes, tsunami and intruders. In addition, the fire department visited once a year to provide staff CPR and emergency response training.
All staff, including our international teachers, practiced chest compressions on a mannequin and learned to use an AED. Recognizing their responsibility for the children in their care, teachers asked the fire department detailed questions about how to respond in different situations.
Preventing injuries and accidents is our first priority. We also want to be ready to protect children’s lives if something does happen, so we will apply what we learned in this training to our daily practice.

Reiko - Services and Community Coordinator (Japan)
Reiko joined CGK’s founding team in 2016, bringing seven years of experience in licensed nursery schools in Japan and six years across two international preschools. She has also volunteered at a daycare in Canada and has held preschool leadership roles at CGK, including Principal and Vice Principal.
A qualified nursery teacher and holder of a Class 2 kindergarten teaching license in Japan, Reiko values each child’s interests and strengths. Drawing on her experience in multicultural early childhood settings, she supports an environment where children can explore new interests through hands-on experiences and express themselves in their own way.
