Traffic Safety with Special Guest Kumakichi

On October 4, a police officer visited the school to teach traffic safety.

Parents joined us despite it being a weekday, and the officer gave an enthusiastic lesson.

The children listened seriously, then a special guest appeared!
Kumakichi the bear made time in his busy schedule to join us.

Confident but a little clumsy, Kumakichi did not fully understand road safety at first. Thanks to the officer’s explanations, both he and the children learned more.

The month’s Job Training theme was Police Officer.

We later reviewed the lesson and visited the police box at Sakuragicho Station during Japanese class to try to speak with an officer. Unfortunately, the officer was out on patrol. These follow-up activities help a single experience stay in the children’s memories.

The next planned small event was an intruder-response drill.
It would be an important opportunity for teachers to practice responding calmly without frightening the children.
