You can experience CGK's inquiry-based learning!
Free to choose and enjoy the daily program from any day of your choice.

CGK International School is an international school with two campuses in Naka-ku, Yokohama, with more than 230 students.
Since its opening, CGK has emphasized inquiry-based learning and is IB PYP candidate school in our preschool and elementary school.
In this Summer School, students will engage in a variety of fun and educational activities while nurturing their ability of self-expression, critical thinking skills, and spirit of inquiry.

    1st to 6th grade students

    *Required to have experience of English learning.
    *We assume that students have a basic level of conversational English. If you have any questions or uncertainties, please consult with us in advance.

    *Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
    *You can apply on a daily basis. Please select as many days as you like.
    *Will close as soon as it reaches capacity.

Program Calendar

July 19(Fri) Sports Day - Field Trip

Have a fun day playing various sports and activities at CGK and Nissan Stadium Park.

We will take the CGK bus to Nissan Park in Shin Yokohama. The park offers areas of shade, water fountains, and various sporting facilities including basketball courts. Students will get the chance to play many different team sports and games while also having fun in free play. We are expecting it to be hot so please make sure to bring plenty of water and a hat as these are both required to go on the field trip. Please also consider applying sunscreen and bug spray before your child gets on the bus. In case of rain or the weather is too hot we will use the facilities at CGK to play indoor team sports.

*Students will need to bring their own lunch. Students will be very active and if staying for the full day may require a change of clothes. We will be taking the bus to Nissan Stadium Park. Please bring a hat and water. In the case of rain we will do activities at CGK.

July 22(Mon) Australian Games

Learn a variety of Australian games and discuss Australian culture with Mr. John.

Mr. John will join us from Preschool to lead a class all about Australian games and culture. Students will have ample opportunity to ask questions and discuss any aspects of Australian life that takes their interest and can delve further into areas that interest them though using the smart board or researching if they wish. Being Australian and a teacher Mr. John knows a lot of fun games that are popular in Australia and will introduce them to the students and try to recreate them at CGK. Who knows, the students may even change the rules of the games to customize them even more to their liking!

July 23(Tue) Australian Art

Learn about and create indigenous Australian art with Ms. Renae.

Ms. Renae will join us from Preschool to lead a class all about indigenous Australian art. Ms. Renae is Australian and has a keen interest in the culture of indigenous Australians that she will share with students. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions to Ms. Renae more generally about Australian life and culture but also discuss who are indigenous Australians and the history that lead us to the present day situation in Australia. Looking at examples of indigenous art students will think about the potential meanings behind the work and share their ideas before creating their own art piece in the style of their choosing and presenting it to their peers.

*There is a chance students will get a little messy so please prepare a change of clothes if desired.

July 24(Tue) Yoga Adventure

Enjoy a yoga adventure and learn about wellness with Ms. Lois.

Ms. Lois will join us from Preschool to lead a class all about wellness and self care. Students will have the chance to discuss self care and why they think it is important before taking part in a yoga adventure lead by Ms. Lois. After completing the adventure students can work on creating their own original routine in groups. Due to the stretching and various poses required in this class please wear baggy clothes and refrain from wearing skirts.

*Students will be stretching so please wear loose fitting clothes and no skirts or dresses.

July 25(Wed) Geometric Painting

Learn about and create original geometric painting with Ms. Samantha.

Ms. Samantha will join us from Elementary School to lead a class where students will explore the creative and fun world of geometric painting. Students will have the opportunity to explore various examples of geometric art and discuss them as a group. Students will be given the choice to plan out their own original art piece or jump straight into trial and error experimentation. At the end of class students will present their art to their peers and answer questions.

*There is a chance students will get a little messy so please prepare a change of clothes if desired.

July 26(Thu) Create Wallpaper

Enjoy an art filled day creating giant wallpaper with Ms. Sayuri.

Ms. Sayuri will join us from Elementary School to lead a class all about creating large format art. Using actual rolls of wallpaper students will work in teams to create original CGK Afterschool wallpaper that we will use to decorate a wall in Afterschool. This will be a giant art project where students will have ample room to bring their creativity to the table. At the end of the day each team will get to present their completed wall paper and answer questions from their peers.

*There is a chance students will get a little messy so please prepare a change of clothes if desired.

July 29(Fri) Galaxy In A Jar

Create your own mini galaxy in a jar with Ms. Anna.

Ms. Anna will join us from Elementary School to lead an art class where students can create their own galaxy in a jar. Students will first look at a variety of different galaxies and discuss the difference in their shapes and composition and have the chance to explore points they are interested in further as a class. Students will then work on creating their own original galaxy in a jar using a variety of art supplies before presenting their work to their peers..

*There is a chance students will get a little messy so please prepare a change of clothes if desired.

July 30(Tue) Ancient Civilization Marble Run

Learn about ancient civilization through marble runs with Ms. Kanoe.

Ms. Kanoe will join us from Preschool to lead a class all about ancient civilizations. Using the smart board and a variety of resources students will delve into the fascinating world of ancient Mesopotamia’s Ziggurats and ancient Roman bridges and will have the chance to discuss points of interests. Students will first plan and then construct their own original marble run Ziggurats or spaghetti bridges using what they have learned to construct stable models. At the end of the class every group will present what they have made and show their peers how it works.

July 31(Wed) Insect Day

Learn about insect specimens with Ms. Monami.

Ms. Monami will join us from Preschool to lead a lesson all about insects. Using various resources such as books and tablets students will research insects that interest them and draw them on shrink plastic before adding interesting information to create a bug specimen sample board that they will present to their peers.

August 1(Thu) Build a City

Learn about the local community with Ms. Maya.

Ms. Maya will join us from preschool to lead an activity where students can learn all about the local community. Students will discuss what they think community means and what essential services are required to make a community thrive. After discussing their ideas students will break into groups and plan out their own original community. After the groups have reached an agreement with their plan they will get to work bringing their community to life by working together to build a 3D model of their creation before presenting it to their peers and answering questions.

August 2(Fri) Tondemi Space Athletic - Field Trip

Enjoy a fun filled active day with friends and work on their fine motor skills!

Students will get the chance to run wild and have an super fun filled day trying out all the facilities at Tondemi Space Athletics Center.

*Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group in a local park. We will take the CGK bus from afterschool. PLEASE BE AWARE THERE IS A MINIMUM HEIGHT RESTRICTION OF 110CM.

August 5(Mon) Hakkeijima Sea Paradise Aquarium - Field Trip

A relaxing and fun day exploring Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise Aquarium.

Students can spend the day exploring the aquarium, watching animal shows, and traversing the biggest 3D maze in Japan, all while discussing the experience and sharing their opinions about what they see.

*Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group at Hakkeijima Sea Paradise. We will take the CGK bus from afterschool.

August 6(Tue) Philippine Culture Day

Learn about Philippine culture through games and activities with Ms. Anjie.

Ms. Anjie will join us from Elementary School to share her experiences growing up in the Philippines. Students will have the opportunity to look at a variety of things associated with the Philippines and discuss their use and significance to Philippine culture. Using the smart board Ms. Anji will share details of the area she grew up in and answer questions from students regarding similarities and differences to childhood in Japan. Students will then take part in traditional Philippine games and dance activities!

August 7(Wed) Vehicle Building

Create vehicles with simple propulsion with Mr. Steven.

Mr. Steven will join us from Preschool to lead an activity all about how vehicles move. Using various learning resources on the smart board to get the conversation started students will share their ideas and discuss their theories. Students will then have the chance to plan out their own moving model vehicle and create it out of classroom materials. At the end of the day students will be able to show off their vehicles in presentation and see how they move while answering questions from their peers.

August 8(Thu) Asobimare - Field Trip

Enjoy a fun filled active day with friends and work on their fine motor skills!

Students had so much fun at Asobimare during Spring school that they have all said they really want the chance to go again. Let's have even more fun this time!

*Field trip by taking trains. Please prepare transportation fee beforehand. Students will need to bring their own lunch.

August 9(Fri) Meet an Owl

Students learn about owls and other nocturnal animals.

 Due to popular demand Mr. Kyohei will be returning to CGK with his pet owl to help students learn all about owls and nocturnal predators! Students can ask Mr. Kyohei any questions they can think of about owls and have the opportunity to pet the owl. After we have said goodbye to the owl, students will then turn their attention to nocturnal predators more generally and look into the techniques and skills they use to be successful hunters. Students will then take the information they have learned and working in pairs, or by themselves, create their own original nocturnal predator that they will share with their peers before the class votes on their favorite predator.

*Students will be handling a real owl so caution is advised if easily scared.

August 19(Mon) Space... what's out there?

Learn about space with Mr. Martin.

Explore the cosmos with former afterschool teacher Mr. Martin! In this exciting lesson, students will study some of the mysteries of the cosmos. They will look at questions such as what is a black hole, where did the Earth come from and are we alone in the universe…or are there aliens out there…?

August 20(Tue) Dots and Circles Art

Create art using dots and circles with Mr. Jhonatta.

Mr. Jhonatta will join us from Elementary School to lead an art class focusing on dots and circles. After general discussion Mr. Jhonatta will read the famous book ‘The Dot’ with students and discuss its message. Taking inspiration from the story and looking at various examples of dot and circle art students will work to create their own original dot and circle art that they can share with their peers,

August 21(Wed) Water Rockets

Discover the science behind bottle rockets.

Discussing their own ideas and using the smart board to access various educational resources students will discuss the physics behind the launching of rockets. After the discussion students will work on designing and building their own rockets in the style that they think will be most effective. Weather permitting we will then take the water rockets to Yokohama Park where students will compete in a variety of challenges to see which rockets will come out victorious.

*There is a possibility students may get a little wet so please prepare a change of clothing if you would like.

August 22(Thu) Street Art

Gain an understanding of the various different types of art located throughout cities around the world.

Students will look at various forms of street art from around the world and discuss the question 'What Is Art?’. Students will then discuss the moral arguments people on both sides have regarding street art and if it should be considered as art. After taking inspiration from what they have seen students will then work on creating their own original art work they will share with the class.

*There is a possibility students may get a little messy so please prepare a change of clothing if you would like.

August 23(Fri) Cardboard Arcade

Create original games that everyone can enjoy using various classroom supplies.

Looking at arcade style games from around the world students will discuss what makes a good game and the common themes present throughout the games they enjoy. After the discussion students will split into teams to plan out and then create their own original games out of classroom supplies that they can then present to their peers before everyone gets the chance to play each team's game.

*Students may get a little messy during craft time so please prepare a change of clothes if so desired.

August 26(Mon) Hamagin Space Science Center - Field Trip

A fun day learning about science through interactive exhibitions, a planetarium, and play.

Students have the opportunity to visit the Hamagin Space Museum. While enjoying the Space Museum and planetarium students will have the chance to discuss the experience and share their opinions about what they see.

August 27(Tue) Egg Drop

Work together to protect an egg!

Due to popular demand the CGK egg drop challenge day has returned! Students will explore  the world of physics through discussion of forces and apply what they learn to building a contraption that can protect an egg that falls from the cleaning. Students will split into teams to design and then build their egg protector and then take part in the egg drop challenge. Which team's egg will survive this year?

August 28(Wed) Miraikan - Field Trip

Explore the latest innovations in the world of science and have exciting and interesting discussions with classmates.

Do you provide bus transportation?

No, we do not. We ask that parents/guardians drop off and pick up their children, or the children commute to the school on their own.

Are school lunches provided?

Yes, you can bring your own lunch or order a lunch on regular course days. Please bring your own on field trip days.

Can I visit the school before I apply?

Yes. You are welcome to observe an actual afterschool classes. Please feel free to contact us.

Is it possible to extend the hours of care?

Pre-extended care (from 9:00 or 9:30am) is available. No extended care after the end of Seasonal School (2:00pm for regular course days and 4:00pm for field trip days) is available.

Can I apply by the day?

Yes. Seasonal School is available on a per day basis.

Is there a maximum capacity?

Yes. Regular course (approx. 45 students/day), field trip days (approx. 32 students/day).

Is it possible to receive feedback after attending the seasonal school?

Where possible, we will strive to give you a report of the day's activities along with photos.
