CGK International School is an international school with two campuses in Naka-ku, Yokohama, with around 300 students.
Since its opening, CGK has emphasized inquiry-based learning and is IB PYP World School in our preschool and elementary school.
In this Spring & Summer School, students will engage in a variety of fun and educational activities while nurturing their ability of self-expression, critical thinking skills, and spirit of inquiry.

    New Grade 1 to 6 Students

    *Required to have experience of English learning.
    *We assume that students have a basic level of conversational English. If you have any questions or uncertainties, please consult with us in advance.

March 17(Mon) Athletic Tsukushino - Field Trip by School Bus

Engage in physical challenges while having fun with their friends in English.

There are a variety of fun physical activities that students can try throughout the day and a lunch break where they can catch their breath. In the case of rain we will do activities at CGK.

*We will take the CGK bus from CGK. Please make sure to bring lunch and something to drink. Students will be engaged in physical activity so please feel free to pack a change of clothes if desired.

March 18(Tue) Art Day

Learn about various forms of art and expression.

Students work individually or with a partner to create a unique piece of art they can share with the class.

*Students will be working with art materials so please feel free to pack a change of clothes if desired.

March 19(Wed) Story Day

Explore how stories are structured and create an original story.

Students can share their ideas about what the key foundations of a good story are and using what they learn they can create their own original short story using any medium they wish.

March 21(Fri) Egg Drop

Work together to protect an egg!

Students must design and create a device that will protect an egg from breaking when dropped from a height.

*There is a chance students will get a little messy.

March 24(Mon) Cardboard Arcade

Create original games that everyone can enjoy using various classroom supplies.

Students will use their imagination and creativity to create games out of classroom materials that everyone can enjoy.

March 25(Tue) Batik Art Day

Learn about, and create original art, using the Batik art style.

Batik art is a traditional method of dyeing fabric, originating from South East Asia, where designs are applied using hot wax to resist dye. The process creates patterns and vibrant colors, often featuring natural or cultural motifs, and is widely celebrated for its craftsmanship and beauty. Using paints, hot glue, and fabrics, students will have the chance to work in pairs or groups to design their own patterns on shirts.

March 26(Wed) Park Day! - Field Trip by School Bus

Enjoy a picnic and active day out at the Children's Nature Park.

Enjoy an active day playing at the park talking with friends in English. In the case of rain we will do activities at CGK.

*We will take the CGK bus from CGK. Please make sure to bring lunch and something to drink. Students will be engaged in physical activity so please feel free to pack a change of clothes if desired.

March 27(Thu) Bridge Battle

Work together to build a bridge that can span a gap and withstand some weight.

Working in groups students will discuss and research ways they can build a bridge that spans a gap between two tables. Groups are free to choose a building style and material that works for them. During presentation time the bridges will be subjected to various stresses to see how they hold up and who made the strongest bridge.

March 28(Fri) Movie Day

Learn about important aspects of telling a story through video.

Students will discuss what aspects they think are important to tell a story through a video format. Using what they have learned they will work in groups to create their own short movies that they can share with the class during presentation time.

March 31(Mon) Asobimare - Field Trip by Train

Enjoy a fun filled day at Asobimare.

New students and old friends can bond while playing in English at the super fun indoor play center Asobimare.

*We will be taking the train. Please make sure your SUICA/PASMO is charged and meet at Yokohama Station North Gate. We will come back to CGK Kannai campus together.

April 1(Tue) Marble Run

Work together to create an original marble run.

Through looking at examples, discussing ideas, and researching as a group, students will create their own original marble runs and share their results with the class.

April 2(Wed) Tower Battle

Build a tower ready for battle!

Working in groups students will discuss and research ways they can build a tower to a required height using classroom materials. Once their towers are ready and students have presented what they have done, groups will work on building projectiles that can be used to take down the opposition towers in a medieval style fight!

April 3(Thu) Sea Paradise - Field Trip by School Bus

Enjoy a day out at Sea Paradise

Students will have the opportunity to learn about various different sea animals, watch various performances, and enjoy a giant wooden 3D cube maze.

*We will take the CGK bus from CGK. Please make sure to bring lunch and something to drink. Please note that we do not accept annual passes or discount tickets as we will purchase school group tickets.

April 4(Fri) How Things Fly

Discover the physics behind how things fly and make your own flying machine.

Through discussion, research, and looking at examples, students will attempt to create their own flying machines and share them with the class.

July 18 (Fri) Hamagin Space Center - Field Trip by School Bus

A fun day learning about science through interactive exhibitions, a planetarium, and play.

Students have the opportunity to visit the Hamagin Space Museum. While enjoying the Space Museum and planetarium students will have the chance to discuss the experience and share their opinions about what they see.

*Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group at Hamagin. We will take the CGK bus from CGK Kannai Campus.

July 22 (Tue) One Line Self Portrait With Ms. Samantha

Challenge yourself to complete a portrait without taking your pencil off the paper!

Explore the world of one line art and complete a self portrait and/or portraits of other people without lifting your pencil off the paper. Students can paint or colour them and present their work to the class.

July 23 (Wed) Dangerous Animals With Mr. James

Discover the fascinating world of dangerous animals with our special guest teacher Mr. James!

Mr. James will discuss various features of different animals that make them well adapted for hunting and survival. Students will take part in various activities that will deepen their understanding of the subject matter, and create their own original predator that they can present to the class.

July 24 (Thu) Safari Day With Mr. Lam

Explore the animal kingdom and share your knowledge about a wide variety of animals.

After the initial discussion, work with your classmates to turn one wall into a CGK safari! Students will paint, craft, and create as many animals as they can to add to the safari wall.

July 25 (Fri) What If Kids Designed A City? With Ms. Nina

Let your imagination and creativity run wild designing your own original city!

Ms. Nina will join us to discuss various aspects of how cities are designed. Through looking at cities in Japan and comparing them with cities in her home country of England, students can start to think about different designs to incorporate into their city plans. After finishing the initial discussions, students will form teams and plan out their cities, discussing unique aspects of its design and debating what to include. Upon finishing their plan they will then get the opportunity to create a 3D model of it out of craft materials before presenting their plan and model to their peers.

July 28 (Mon) Create Your Own Wallpaper With Ms. Sayuri

Using real wallpaper and different types of paint let your imagine run wild and bring your creative ideas to life!

Ms. Sayuri will join us to lead a big art extravaganza day where students will use paint and wallpaper to create original art that can decorate the walls of the school. After an initial discussion students will work in teams and plan out their ideas. Communication will be key to make sure everyone is on the same page and using their large canvas effectively to create amazing eye catching art.

July 29 (Tue) Create An Original Mascot With Mr. Justin

Dive into the world of mascots and discuss what makes them successful, eye-catching, and effective before applying what you learn to your very own original mascot!

Students will discuss what makes a good mascot and look at examples from Japan and around the world. They will then work in groups or individually to create their very own mascot, develop its back story, and create additional merchandise that they will then present to the class.

July 30 (Wed) Original Music With Mr. Matt

Create your own original music using a variety of instruments and technology!

CGK’s music teacher, Mr. Matt, will lead a class all about creating your own original music. Using percussion instruments and a music making app, students will work in small teams to create their own music through trial and error before sharing their creation with their peers.

July 31 (Thu) Shaved Ice Challenge With Ms. Anjie

Create your own shaved ice and sample different types from around the world!

Join Ms. Anjie for a fun-filled summer session where kids will explore and create their own version of shaved ice treats from around the world! From Halo-Halo to Kakigori, they’ll learn about different flavors, experiment with toppings, and design their own cool creations.

August 1 (Fri) Tondemi Space Athletic - Field Trip by School Bus

Enjoy a fun filled active day with friends and work on their fine motor skills!

Students will get the chance to run wild and have a super fun filled day trying out all the facilities at Tondemi Space Athletics Center.

During presentation time each group can share their ideas and receive feedback from their peers.

On day two students will get to work on filming and editing their movies and will also have the chance to create any additional items they may need for their story to come to life.

Day three is the final day to shoot any remaining scenes and do any additional editing. At the end of the day we will have the opportunity for each group to share their movie with everyone.

*One-day participation is possible, but we recommend attending all three days.

Learn about density, buoyancy, and how giant ships float on water through hands-on experiments!

After discussing their initial thoughts and forming their own hypotheses students will test various items around the class to confirm if they sink or float when put on water. After discussing their findings students will engage in various activities to further their understanding, before working in teams to plan and construct their own ship to test if it floats or sinks!

August 27 (Wed) Sea Paradise - Field Trip by School Bus

A relaxing and fun day exploring Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise Aquarium.

Student's can spend the day exploring the aquarium, watching animal shows, and traversing the biggest 3D maze in Japan (weather permitting), all while discussing the experience and sharing their opinions about what they see.

*Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group at Sea Paradise. We will take the CGK bus from CGK Kannai Campus.

Sea Paradise - Field Trip by School Bus

A relaxing and fun day exploring Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise Aquarium.

Student's can spend the day exploring the aquarium, watching animal shows, and traversing the biggest 3D maze in Japan (weather permitting), all while discussing the experience and sharing their opinions about what they see.

*Please prepare a lunchbox as we will be eating as a group at Sea Paradise. We will take the CGK bus from CGK Kannai Campus.

FAQ

Do you provide bus transportation?

No, we do not. We ask that parents/guardians drop off and pick up their children, or the children commute to the school on their own.

Are school lunches provided?

Yes, you can bring your own lunch or order a lunch on regular course days. Please bring your own on field trip days.

Can I visit the school before I apply?

Yes. You are welcome to observe an actual afterschool classes. Please feel free to contact us.

Is it possible to extend the hours of care?

Pre-extended care (from 9:00 or 9:30am) is available. No extended care after the end of Seasonal School (2:00pm for regular course days and 4:00pm for field trip days) is available.

Can I apply by the day?

Yes. Seasonal School is available on a per day basis.

Is there a maximum capacity?

Yes. Regular course (approx. 45 students/day), field trip days (approx. 32 students/day).

Can I find out about my child's lessons after they participate?

We will share photos of how the day went through LINE. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about your child's experience.

registering via LINE allows you to receive daily photos of the lessons.
