"How can we open our own ice cream shop!"

Afterschool December 18, 2023

Today, we will introduce our afterschool lesson called Project Work.

Each project has a driving question and this project's question was "How can we open our own ice cream shop?" Students were discussing, researching and learning with friends and teachers through this question. One project continues for up to four months and teachers guide lesson based on students' interests.

Here is a report from the teachers.

Week 1,2

Our journey into the world of ice cream started with brainstorming. Students shared their interests and dreams, and from there, we narrowed down our options. Ice cream emerged as the crowd favorite, and the history of ice cream was set to be our starting point.

Week 3,4

With the dream of opening our own ice cream shop, students began designing their ice cream shop hats. Various creative designs started taking shape, including upside-down ice cream cones and headbands. Simultaneously, we explored logo designs for "CGK Ice," opting for a logo that emanated joy.

Week 5 to 8

We embarked on an exciting journey to understand the history of ice cream. Exploring ancient recipes, students were intrigued by how ice cream had evolved. We even recreated historical recipes, including the curious-sounding "honey-ice." Experimenting with various flavors, we continued to experiment, learning from both our successes and failures. We created CGK Ice coupons and envisioned a future where our shop would be bustling with excited customers.

Week 9,10

Our students started preparations for becoming true ice cream artisans. Divided into groups, they created ice cream bases, experimenting with chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, matcha, and cookie cream flavors. Our goal was to serve delicious, creamy ice cream in our shop.

Week 11

With our ice cream ready to serve, our class transformed into a bustling ice cream shop. We organized our space, designed menus, and worked on ensuring an efficient flow. The anticipation for our big opening day was building.

Week 12

Overcoming a challenge with our ice cream, we decided to make ice cream bars to ensure the best customer experience. We learned that adaptability is key when dealing with frozen treats.

Week 13

To document our ice cream adventure, students recorded videos explaining the history, menus, and their personal insights on ice cream. It was a sweet way to capture our journey and share it with others.

Week 14

The moment we had all been waiting for arrived as we enjoyed some popcorn while watching our presentation video. Afterward, students shared their thoughts and experiences through feedback forms, and we concluded our journey with a mini-presentation, celebrating the sweet success of our ice cream project. And with that, we completed our delightful exploration into the world of ice cream, turning our classroom into a delicious ice cream shop!
