Community Support We Can Do with Our Children – CGK Joins Yokohama Spring Homeless Patrol
A group of volunteers from our school’s staff and family joined Yokohama Spring Homeless Patrol (YSHP), a volunteer group that serves the homeless and needy around Kannai, Yokohama.
YSHP started in November 2021 and rain, hail, or shine, YSHP meets every two weeks at JR Kannai station to distribute food and supplies. These items are brought by the volunteers or donated to YSHP. On average over one hundred people line up hours beforehand to receive these items.
Reflecting Yokohama’s status as a metropolitan city, YSHP volunteers come from all backgrounds, cultures, and age groups.
On this day, volunteers from our school’s preschool, elementary school, and middle school helped to hand out items such as canned food, fresh fruit, and handmade rice balls. Whilst these may be simple items, to those in need they make a big difference.
Serving those in need is a privilege especially to those in our community. We are grateful for this opportunity to work with YSHP and await the next opportunity.
