Our First Classroom Observation Day

About three and a half months after opening, Cosmo Global Kids held its first classroom observation day.

Beforehand, teachers wanted families to see the children’s growth and wondered whether they would show their usual English skills with parents watching. But even if they did not, that would be fine. We decided not to dress things up, but to share our normal, lively and enjoyable lessons and care.

Here is a report from that first observation.

Circle time

Our morning meeting, held in the afternoon on this occasion.

We usually discuss the calendar and weather too. This time, the children introduced their names and ages and sang English songs energetically.

They love songs and are always learning new ones, from songs for pure enjoyment to those about months, days and body parts. English immersion extends beyond Circle Time to bus journeys and waiting for the toilet, offering varied experiences and stimulation without making children feel stressed.

Olympia

Physical activity time.

The month’s focus was the horizontal bar.

Our annual program reflects the age and development of the two-year-olds. This month included bar activities, and the children tried hard to show their parents what they could do. Each successful 15-second hang brought applause.

Some lessons involve sitting on chairs, but the children are learning to switch between sitting attentively and moving their bodies energetically.
Olympia time is not simply running around freely, although running can be part of the warm-up. We follow rules and wait for turns while being active.

The next month’s plan involved a vaulting box. Jumping over it was still difficult, but it could support many other enjoyable activities to develop movement skills.

Job training

Job Training.
This lesson allows considerable freedom and requires children to apply their English.

The previous month’s theme was Florist. Our role-play always has a purpose beyond simply pretending.
Customers used colors and numbers to request flowers, while shopkeepers explained a price and accepted payment.
Clear learning goals are built into enjoyable play.

The children also play these roles together during free time or while waiting for friends.
Lessons introduce the ideas deliberately; free play then offers more independent practice. Even at two, children know how to enjoy using English for jobs they might otherwise not understand how to act out. Japanese lessons also explore the roles, deepening understanding.

The florist activity in June strengthened interaction between children through the roles of shopkeeper and customer. We saw a shift from mainly teacher-child exchanges toward more peer interaction and developing social skills.

Looking Ahead for Cosmo Global Kids

Parents visiting school is special for the children and equally important for our staff.

We usually glimpse home life through daily communications and our time with the children. Meeting families lets us understand more, explain our approach and hear their thoughts. This exchange is important for CGK’s future.

As a new, small school, we are grateful for families’ cooperation in trying a wide range of activities.

We will keep putting ideas from daily staff discussions into practice, working together to make school a place as warm and rewarding as home.
