CGK and YSHP Volunteer Event
Yokohama Spring Homeless Patrol (YSHP) is a volunteer group that relies on volunteers and donations to serve the homeless and needy in Yokohama. Rain, hail, or shine, every two weeks YSHP gather at JR Kannai station where around one hundred people wait for over an hour beforehand to receive much-needed food and supplies. Some of the CGK teachers have been volunteering with YSHP in 2023.
But for the very first time, we invited CGK families to join YSHP on their latest homeless patrol. It was an all-school event as six families from our preschool, elementary school, and afterschool kindly volunteered, taking the total number of YSHP volunteers to 35.
On the day, nearly 150 people were waiting for over an hour beforehand to receive some much needed food and supplies such as heating pads, toiletries, and clothing. These were all donated by the volunteers who came on the day or from donations to YSHP's Amazon wishlist.
This year, many of the CGK students have been looking at communities as part of their UOI. Volunteering with YSHP was a first-hand learning experience as the children were afforded a look at a part of our community that they may never have encountered before.

CGK would like to thank YSHP for letting us join them in their work. Also, a big thank you to the CGK families who came on the day or donated to YSHP's Amazon wishlist.
Your generosity and kindness is much appreciated. CGK will definitely be joining YSHP again in 2024 so we look forward to having you join us as well.
