Moral Education Lesson for Project Work/モラルレッスン紹介

Afterschool 2021.01.07

Here is an introduction to lessons at CGK Afterschool.

CGK's eight-week-long project works will be based on the main “Driving Question”.
Here are the Driving Questions for this "Moral" lesson.

"How can we be responsible for others and myself?"

We followed this question with fun lessons each week that drew the student's interest.
Here are the comments of Mr. Bobby, the teacher who was in charge of the lessons.

Week 1
I introduced the topic for the next 8 weeks being about responsibility. Together the class made an anchor chart and we discussed what responsibility means and how we can be responsible. As a class we discussed what responsible and irresponsible means.
Week 2
The students reviewed what responsibility means and brainstorms ways they could be super kids. The students created an anchor chart and role-played scenario cards and discussed about being responsible.

Week 3
This week we discussed goal setting and what a goal is. Together we learned the steps on making a goal and how to achieve that goal. Using a 4 step plan (1.Reflect, 2.Select, 3.Make a plan, 4.Practice) the students began to think of a goal that they want to achieve.
Week 4
Students decided on the goal they would try to achieve in four weeks. The class learned that each day they would practice for at least 10 minutes a day and at CGK we would video their progress and for the final presentation we would play a short trailer of their practices before they showed off their skill to their parents. We also read about Peace Week and what bullying means.
Week 5
We worked on our goals and spent time learning about bullying and what it means to be teased and how there are different types of teases. We discussed as a class how to tell a good tease and a bullying one.

Week 6
Checked in with students about their goals and how it was going. We discussed things that could help them or hinder their progress. Kids learned more about bullying and how to stand up to bully’s and how to stand up for others.
Week 7-8
Students worked on their goals and began to look at how to edit the videos on iMovie and creating their trailers. The final day of 10-minute practices and the students created their video presentation. After finishing their trailers, the students practiced their final performances and spoke about what it was like to learn about responsibility.

In the final presentation, the students presented the tasks they had practiced every week in front of their parents and guardians, and we could see that they had a "sense of responsibility".
It is difficult for them to accomplish their tasks on their own, but I think they helped each other by taking pictures of each other's practice sessions with their friends.
Some of the children practiced not only at afterschool but also at home, and they worked very hard.
I look forward to seeing them grow and develop in future lessons.
