International Preschool for
Childcare and Global Education
Through "childcare" and "global education" from early childhood,
CGK International School nurtures the physical and mental growth of children to provide them with infinite future possibilities.
Unlike other preschools, CGK International School doesn't just babysit children during childcare hours, but offers a wide variety of programs while at the same time providing the highest quality care. Through high-quality "global education," CGK International School stimulates curiosity and interest here in Yokohama and to the wide-world, raising "real global kids" who can think for themselves and demonstrate leadership.
Fulfilling Childcare & Education Program
At CGK, children are cared for full time from 8:30am to 5:00pm (8:00am to 6:30pm if extended care is included), 5 days a week.
There are no shorter hours or less than 5 day-a-week courses.
For this reason, we are able to provide not only English education,
but a full curriculum of subjects along with a variety of programs,
which are of the highest standard in both quantity and quality.
(1) Global Education
Bilingual Education, multicultural studies, and active learning - with these three goals in mind, we encourage our children to develop self-expression, an acute cognitive ability, and a spirit of inquiry, so that they can one day grow up to become global citizens.
All of our Japanese teachers have childcare certifications. We value cooperativeness and empathy in group life, and nurture the mental and intellectual growth of the children while still incorporating many positive aspects of Japanese childcare.
(3) Kindergarten Education
We teach cooperation, consideration, discipline, manners, etiquette, songs, crafts, musical instruments, offer seasonal events, and prepare students to enter international schools or Japanese public or private elementary schools.
(4) Intellectual Training
CGK is the first international preschool in Japan to introduce the Pygmalion class. Specialized teachers provide intellectual education for children in their critical learning period by developing their acute cognitive ability and problem-solving skills, rather than passive education that crams knowledge into them.
(5) Food Education
At CGK, we collaborate with a local Italian restaurant and Kanagawa farmers to educate children on the importance of understanding the food chain from seed to plate. Children plant and harvest their own vegetables, do their own grocery shopping, visit restaurants, and receive a wide variety of cooking lessons throughout the year.
(6) P.E. / Swimming
Our P.E. and swimming classes are taught by professional instructors. In P.E., children build their gross motor skills through various activities such as using vaults, mats, bars, jump ropes, and others using just their bodies. We also offer year-round private swimming instruction in a heated indoor facility where children enjoy sharping their skills in the water.
(7) Authentic Experiences
By getting out into the world and experiencing things firsthand, students develop a spirit of inquiry and are therefore more naturally driven to learn and explore in general. What they learn and experience here will foster positive experiences that will remain in their memories for a lifetime.
(8) Optional Classes
To further nurture our children’s individuality, abilities, and interests, we offer optional classes on weekdays after 4:30pm. Currently, there are classes in advanced intellectual training (Pygmalion), early programming, and dance.
Pygmalion Classes Develop Acute Cognitive Abilities
Sending Students to Nada Junior High, One of the Toughest Schools in Japan
Pygmalion education, which has seen great success in the Kansai area, has been introduced to an international preschool for the first time in Japan.
Developing "Acute Cognitive Abilities" and "Problem-solving Abilities"
With the rise of IT and AI, education that only focuses on knowledge / skill is becoming redundant. The Pygmalion method increases finger, spatial, graphic, number logic and language skills to enhance acute cognitive abilities, rather than simply cramming the students with knowledge.
Optimal Education for the Critical Childhood Years
Higher mental abilities are best developed in early childhood which is a critical time for brain growth. Conversely, if not nurtured with appropriate methods and materials during this period, a lower mental capacity that only allows for input of knowledge and skills will become fixed.
