Nekotoyagi is the brainchild of indie artist Jun. Born in Tokyo, he attended the Traditional Arts Super College Of Kyoto (TASK) in 2009. After graduating in 2009, Jun completed further studies in the field of early childhood.
Currently working as a childcare worker, since December 2020 Jun has also produced creative illustrations under the name, Zun. These illustrations playfully combines ugly and cute which brings an element of whimsical humour to our daily routines. The inspiration for Jun's drawings come from his mother who was also an artist. As a child, Jun grew up as his mother was battling with breast cancer. Jun was drawn to drawing to lighten up the heavy environment that surrounded him as well as bringing joy to his mother. Since then, he has continued to create uplifting pictures with the aim of bringing a smile, no matter how little it is, to the viewer's face.
Since 2022, Jun's works have been exhibited in bookstores in England, America, and other places. His works have also been displayed in special needs classrooms and childcare centres across Japan. Jun is also the creator of Henteko Land, a popular series of illustrations which began from tales which explored an imaginative world filled with two-legged animals. Each simple creation contains a deeper story which will stay with the viewer for a long time.
